Scribbling on a sheet of paper is completely different than sliding a digital pen across a smooth glass surface. Which is what you do when you use a drawing pad or an iPad for digital art creation. I have both in my studio. I love paper. For me, nothing beats the feel of paper in your fingertips and the sound of it crinkling.

But, also it’s messy and hard to carry a lot of papers at once. They fall out of piles and they get damaged with smears. And, looking for a specific sheet with a specific sketch, in a pile of sheets – well, it’s a fucking nightmare.

I prefer animating in AI. It’s just easier. It’s more dangerous for humanity than using animation software..but, just getting something done in a matter of hours instead of weeks. C’mon?

I created the music video “Gimmore” as a test to see if it could actually be fun to do, or just another task. I discovered it was way easier and a lot of fun. But, it also left me feeling like I didn’t earn it. Seeing the animations come to life was super exciting. But, as a naturally creative person who has made an entire life out of making things pop into existence out of thin air – just by using my imagination and my acquired skills: it felt completely like cheating.

Hands down, I prefer animating in AI. It’s like night and day and using software is cumbersome compared to simply using your image in an AI engine with some prompts. I animated this simple music video for Gooder Kind in less than an hour or so. I didn’t worry about making it perfect. I just wanted a living concept I could point to and base my evaluation on. This video is a combo of art derived or inspired by my hand-drawn art, prompts, video editing and original music from Gooder Kind:

I’ve always felt a certain amount fo pride knowing I learned how to do something and was able to apply that new knowledge to something meaningful. Making music, animating my artwork – it’s all kind of hand in hand for me now. And, AI makes it too easy. It seems fake. I’m talking about the music videos I animated with AI.

This is the “Programming the sheeple” music video.

It looks good. Really good!

I was surprised by how delighted I was when it was done and ready to watch in under an hour. All done in the same manner as I mentioned before. This one I created 9 months earlier than “Gimmemore”. But, i applied the same half assed fuck-it energy to it and voila!
